About Fundamenta

Most financial content tells you what to buy. Almost none of it tells you how the business works.

Fundamenta exists to close that gap: to make the primary documents that describe a public company — the annual report, the filings, the statements — readable by anyone willing to spend twenty minutes.

Why this exists

Everything a serious investor needs about a public company is already published, for free, by the company itself. A 10-K contains the segment economics, the customer concentration, the lease obligations and the risk factors. It is also two hundred pages long, written by lawyers, and structured to satisfy a regulator rather than to explain anything.

So most people never read it. They read a headline about the stock instead, and end up with an opinion about a share price and no understanding of the business underneath it. That is a bad trade, and it is the one this site is built to reverse.

We would rather be slowly right about how a company works than quickly wrong about where its stock is going.

What we do differently

01 - Sources

We read the filing, not the summary

Every number we publish is entered by hand from the company own report. It is slower, and it is the only way to know what the number actually is.

02 - Scope

We explain the business before the numbers

A margin only means something once you know what the company sells and to whom. The business model section comes first in every report, deliberately.

03 - Honesty

We publish what we do not know

Every report has a section on the things the filings do not disclose. Uncertainty stated is more useful than confidence invented.

04 - Independence

Readers pay us, so nobody else can

No sponsored research, no affiliate links to brokers, no advertising from covered companies. The incentive stays pointed at the reader.

Editorial philosophy

We write for the reader who wants to understand, not the reader who wants to be told. That produces a particular kind of prose: specific, unhurried, and willing to say that a question is open.

  • No price targets. We publish valuation frameworks and the assumptions inside them. What you do with them is yours.
  • No ratings. A single word cannot summarise a business, and a rating invites you to skip the reasoning.
  • No urgency. Nothing here needs to be acted on today. If a report reads as time-sensitive, we have written it badly.
  • Corrections in public. When we are wrong, the correction appears on the report with the date and the change.

Where this goes

The long-term ambition is a complete, consistent reference on how public companies work — several thousand businesses described the same way, updated as they file, and readable by someone with no finance background.

That takes years, and it takes revenue that does not come from advertisers. The premium tier funds the research; the free tier keeps the education open to anyone. We intend to keep it that way.
