Veeva Systems Inc. Business quality: High
NYSE: VEEV · Life sciences software · United States · Latest fiscal year ended 31 January 2026

Veeva sells cloud software, data and consulting almost exclusively to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. Development Cloud and Quality Cloud are reported together as R&D and Quality Solutions; Commercial Cloud, which includes the CRM used by sales representatives, and Data Cloud are reported as Commercial Solutions. Subscriptions are billed annually or quarterly in advance and recognised ratably over terms that are usually one year, so visibility extends about a year and no multi-year backlog exists. There were 1,552 customers and 7,928 employees at year end, and the ten largest customers were 28% of revenue in each of the three years, none above 10%.

Analysis last updated 28 October 2026 · All figures from Veeva Systems Inc.'s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, filed with the SEC on March 20, 2026, converted from the thousands reported there. The multiples use the closing price of $207.36 on January 31, 2026 — the last trading day of the fiscal year, so price and earnings refer to the same date — and the 163,330,933 shares outstanding at March 17, 2026, both supplied to the analysis. Return on invested capital is not a figure the statements report: it is built here as operating income after tax over equity plus lease liabilities minus cash and investments, and section 3-quinquies states its limit.

The business in one page

Revenue was $3,195.3 million, up 16.3%, and every cost line grew more slowly: cost of subscription 12.3%, research and development 10.7%, sales and marketing 8.1%. The operating margin went from 18.2% to 28.7% in two years and the subscription gross margin from 84.7% to 86.5%. R&D and Quality overtook Commercial as the larger subscription area, 44.6% of total revenue against 38.3% two years earlier, growing 20.9%. Growth was organic: there was no acquisition line in the cash flow statement and goodwill was unchanged at $439.9 million.

Three things sit against that. Stock-based compensation of $472.7 million, 14.8% of revenue, is the entire difference between free cash flow of $8.30 per diluted share and $5.47 after it, and diluted shares still grew 1.1%. The reseller agreement with Salesforce, on whose platform the legacy Veeva CRM runs, expired on September 1, 2025 and entered a five-year wind-down, while the 10-K records that a number of customers have stated their intent to move to Salesforce as their CRM provider; Commercial subscription revenue of $1,257.6 million is not split between CRM and data products, so the exposure cannot be measured. And the cash compounds at a portfolio rate: 82.1% of three years' operating cash went into securities earning about 4.6% before tax.
